Hampton County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Carolina. The 2000 census recorded its population to be 21,386, with nearly 65% of this classified as rural. Its county seat is Hampton. The county includes two small urban clusters: Hampton (2000 pop.: 4,011) and Estill (3,637). The name originates from Civil War general Wade Hampton. |

Jasper County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Carolina. It was formed in 1912 from portions of Hampton County and Beaufort County. In 2000, its population was 20,678 (21,398 according to a 2005 estimate). Its county seat is Ridgeland Jasper County is included within the Hilton Head Island–Beaufort Micropolitan Statistical Area, though over 80% of the county population is classified as rural. Historically, in contrast to neighboring Beaufort County, Jasper was one of the poorest counties in the state. Recent development from 2000 onwards has given the county new residents, expanded business opportunities, and a wealthier tax base. |
